Job Description – Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager will oversee the employee experience at four small companies. Reporting to Kelman Hill, Inc., additional small businesses supported include: Central Ave Compassionate Care, a medical marijuana company with 45 employees, Gage Cannabis, a newly established recreational cannabis company expected to hire 25 employees and Turf Logic, a lawn care company with 20 employees. The HR Manager is a shared resourced for these four groups and will handle the entire employee life cycle including recruiting, on boarding, off boarding, payroll and benefit administration as well as employee relations and training. Reporting to the CEO of Kelman Hill Properties, the HR manager will act as a business partner while ensuring the best possible employment experience at each of his small businesses. While not an inclusive list, responsibilities for this role include:


  • Directs, coordinates and facilitates all Human Resource activities including talent management, career progression, succession planning, talent acquisition, compliance, compensation, benefits and organizational development.

  • Advises management on personnel issues

  • Monitors and updates employee handbooks commensurate with changing business and compliance needs

  • Ensures all HR administrative functions including payroll processing, new hire paperwork, personnel file maintenance (including form I-9s), record retention, background checks, necessary agent registrations, etc., are handled in an accurate, compliant, and timely manner

  • Assures compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws, special permits and corporate policies/guidelines and identifies opportunities to develop and implement new practices/guidelines to achieve business goals

  • Assists in resolving issues including conducting investigations, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action to ensure consistent policy application and legal compliance

  • Conducts and interprets wage surveys within relative labor market to determine competitive wage rates

  • Manages and implements performance-based employee review system

  • Conducts and facilitates annual benefit open enrollment meetings, annual diversity training and other training as required

  • Performs additional tasks as directed by CEO& COO in a timely and efficient manner

Qualifications and Skills:

  • BSBA or equivalent required, Master’s degree strongly preferred

  • Professional certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, etc.) strongly preferred

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a demanding HR role; Management

  • experience strongly preferred

  • At least 21 years of age.

  • Must be able to pass a background check

  • Must not have been convicted of any felony offense

  • Experience in a complex, fast-paced environment

  • Ability to genuinely and respectfully connect with coworkers

  • Demonstrated professionalism and business acumen

  • High attention to detail and accuracy to ensure high quality

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Working knowledge of employee benefits and policies

  • Strong organization and planning skills

  • Team-building skills

  • Ability to pass all required background checks to work with cannabis

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
